Dear California Energy Commission:

This letter is intended to support the creation of several Green Hive facilities throughout the state of California.

I am the Director of Project Management and Sustainability here Studley Inc. for the Los Angeles area, I am also the founder and executive director of the Upward Gravity Foundation which uses design competitions to enable high school involvement in the creation of solutions to environmental and sustainability challenges.

As the ‘Green’ movement continues to gain steam, the need for green education, curriculum and training will be vital to fill the thousands of new green jobs that are on the horizon. The Green hive is a unique and vital project because it creates a physical hub that brings together every component of the developing Green economy: K-12 education, higher education, industry, government, NGOs, manufacturers and traditional distribution channels. This comprehensive and inclusive approach will allow the center to provide exceptional educational opportunities.

The upcoming opening of The Green Hive’s first facility in downtown Los Angeles has generated excitement throughout the LA community. My foundation will be holding its first large scale high school design competition in the downtown Green Hive space. I hope that the CEC helps to provide the funding necessary to open more of these revolutionary resource centers throughout the state, thereby spreading this opportunity and enthusiasm across California. The demand for information and access to green technologies, products and alternatives is growing rapidly, and providing a physical hub to help facilitate these demands is critical to the future of our communities.
