THE GREEN HIVE TO HOST AWARDS CEREMONY

2009 Upward Gravity Foundation Competition Ceremony December 5, 2009

The Green Hive is pleased to announce the Upward Gravity Foundation competition awards ceremony will be held at the brand new facility built in collaboration with Los Angeles Community College District in downtown Los Angeles at 811 Wilshire Blvd. on December 5, 2009.

"This is our first chance to host an important event and we're thrilled William Robertson of Upward Gravity chose to support The Green Hive by holding his event at this site. It's an important step toward realizing our goal of giving Los Angeles, and all of Southern California, a center for the sustainability movement" said Kris Kimble, President and CEO, The Green Hive.

The 2009 Upward Gravity Foundation competition is an architectural ideas competition for improving the sustainability of the environments that surround us. The challenge to High School Students across Southern California is to pick one of the three environments and design a set of improvements that incorporate sustainability and elements from school curriculum as the central forces for transformation.

SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL FOR GREEN DESIGNERS

I thought this was really cool and wanted to pass it on ---For one week in late October, Cape Town will be one of the greenest business cities on Earth and you can go too-- Cape Town Green Week (Oct. 19-23, 2009)

One of our friends, Andrea Atkinson, founder of Scopa Group and formerly of NEXUS, The Green Roundtable in Boston has partnered with Elevate Destinations to offer Sustainable Travel for Green Designers, providing architects, engineers and others involved in the green building world with a new perspective on sustainable building and design

The objective of the trips is to explore green building and sustainable design in developing countries, participate in cross-cultural dialogue between the visiting group and non-profits and green designers in each country and obtain hands-on experience by volunteering at a non-profit in-country. This South Africa trip features visits to eco-villages and non-profits doing work in townships as well as attendance to the Green Building Council of South Africa Conference and Convention.

About Scopa Group: provides program development and implementation solutions for communities, small businesses and non-profits committed to achieving economic, environmental and social sustainability.
Elevate Destinations is a sustainable travel boutique based in Cambridge, MA which donates a percentage of the trip to non-profits doing environmental and community development work in the countries they visit.
